Residents of Nabweru in Nansana Municipality have been urged to closely monitor the construction of their new division headquarters to ensure quality work and proper use of public funds.

The appeal was made by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Nansana, Charles Lwanga, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nabweru Division Headquarters, which has operated from rented premises for over a decade.

“For over 10 years, this division has been operating in rented offices. That has not only been costly but also inconvenient for both staff and residents seeking services,” Lwanga said.

He called on residents to act as watchdogs over the project, urging them to ensure that government funds are properly utilized.

“I call upon all residents of Nabweru to work closely with the government and ensure that this project moves smoothly. Do not allow anyone to steal construction materials or sabotage the work. This building belongs to you,” he added.

The Town Clerk of Nabweru Division, Deo Kiddu, described the project as a long-awaited milestone.

“We have spent many years paying rent, and it has been expensive. Residents have also had to endure long and sometimes uncomfortable journeys while seeking services,” he said.

“Once this headquarters is completed, we shall operate in a more spacious and suitable environment, which will improve service delivery.”

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Nabweru Division, Kasimu Jumba, acknowledged that securing a permanent headquarters had been a complex process.

“The journey from renting to owning our own headquarters has not been simple. We faced several challenges, especially in acquiring the land title for the site where this building is going to stand,” he explained.

He further noted that the rented premises posed safety concerns. “Where we have been operating from has not been entirely safe. There have been frequent accidents, which has been worrying for us as leaders,” Jumba said.

He also thanked taxpayers for their continued support, noting that their contributions made the project possible.

The construction contract has been awarded to Skylight General Services Ltd at a cost of two billion shillings.

The project is expected to be completed within six months, marking a new chapter for Nabweru Division’s administration and service delivery.
